Since you’re wondering, here’s a little bit about me…
My name is John Muldoon V. That V after my name means I’m “the fifth” John Muldoon in a row. You might think it also means my family isn’t all that creative at naming people, and you’d be right. We’re better at other things, probably. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, lucky. Went to school nearby too. It’s a pretty excellent place to live. Good weather, culture, people, commerce.
I did the college thing, BS in something-irrelevant-ology. Before I was done with it, though, I started a consulting business called The Watermark Group. I’ve been running it for a bit more than 4 years, and have advised many companies (I lost count after 50) and generally made them better. It’s a challenging and fun job. This isn’t really a site about work though, it’s about the rest of life.
I’m a travel junkie. A spontaneous, wandering, mountain climbing, free-spirit. I have an amazing life partner, and a ridiculous, trouble-making dog. We all share a thirst for adventure, and try to quench it often. These are the things you’ll run across on this site, that’s why it’s called John Likes. Here’s a little sample…
Some highlights from the past few years: I’ve driven across Iceland in a day, stopping only to take our hopelessly incapable (rented) Toyota Yaris on a serious 4×4 road to the tongue of a melting glacier. I’ve visited towns in the Swiss Alps that are only accessible by rock climbing or gondola. I’ve seen the sun’s first light melting the shadows at Machu Picchu. I’ve drunk a beer the size of my head in Munich’s beer gardens, kissed the Blarney Stone, napped beneath the Eiffel Tower, seen the opera in Vienna, and watched the sun rise from a beach in Africa only to watch it set that same night from a beach in Europe. Climbed the highest mountain in Mexico, and even higher ones in the Andes, including the highest active volcano in the world. Thanksgiving on the coast in Mexico, Christmas in the highlands of Ecuador. Dipped my toes in the Atlantic, Pacific, Mediterranean and Caribbean. Crossed international borders on foot, into Mexico, Guatemala, Spain, Morocco, Bolivia and Peru. I have more stamps on my passport than I’ve had candles on any birthday cake. With any luck, I’m just getting started.

He IS… The world’s most INTERESTING man.
Hilarious, Mr. Rode. One could argue, your life isn’t exactly uninteresting. Prepare to appear in many stories on my blog.
haha that was actually a good one ben. john, you make me sound lazy.
I’ll probably have to add, before too long, “been introduced to South Africa’s underground hip-hop scene”. Gina, make it happen.
